Your Michigan Concealed Pistol License also referred to as “CPL” and formerly known as “CCW” authorizes you to be fully armed with a loaded pistol on your person for your protection and the protection of innocent victims. It is your responsibility to ensure the safe carrying and acquired knowledge of the Fundamentals of Firearm safety and handling. Also it is your responsibility to obey the laws and ordinances of the state of Michigan and its Counties concerning the CCW regulations and prohibitions regarding Pistol Free Areas. There are many benefits to your CPL and some may come to mind.
This article will itemize Six (6) such benefits.
#1. Plain and Simple, Personal Protection
In today’s society and violent economy, people are striving to survive. Many are just about making it and many more will survive regardless of the means. Violence has risen day after day and in my line of work, I see it, work through it, and manage to get over it. Unfortunately, how many people die or get seriously injured regardless of street law enforcement? The law can’t be everywhere all the time, and sometimes, it will come down to you, saving your own life. We are all candidates for victimization in this society and industry and in one way or another, we, each one of us, will become a victim. The question becomes, how much can we defend and how can we defend.

Here’s something I read online on “thehighroad.org” and like to post what other people think:
"Well, why do cops carry guns? Oh yea, to protect themselves from bad guys. Do Bad guys routinely try to rob/rape/murder cops that are in full uniform and walking down the street at night? No huh, they're looking for unarmed victims. Hmm....guess that's why I want a CCW, so they will go look for someone else!"
“Read the newspapers. Armed robberies, assaults, carjackings, etc. Sure, it may never happen to you, odds are it won't. But the odds are that my house won't catch fire, and I still have a fire extinguisher and homeowner's insurance. I think of my Ruger P95 in its holster as a combination of crime extinguisher and violent-felony insurance. The odds are no comfort when you're bleeding to death in a dark parking lot while some no-good felonious bastard runs off with your wallet”.
#2. Safe Travels
Enjoy safer vacations while you are out of the road or flying to any of the 36 other states that honor the Michigan CPL, but you must remember that a Michigan concealed pistol licensee who wishes to carry a concealed pistol in another state is responsible for complying with the laws of that state. Imagine how comfortable and safe you feel while out on vacation with your family and friends at an unknown area stopping to eat at a restaurant, filling up gasoline, or at a rest stop.
#3. Borrowing & Access to Guns
As a CPL holder, you have the right to carry any gun you wish from anybody as long as it is registered. Yes, it does not have to be registered to you. Your Concealed Pistol License allows you to carry and posses a gun that is currently registered to someone else for no reason, as simple as that. You can borrow your buddy’s handgun to try out at the gun range without your buddy being with you to be familiar with a different caliber or an alternative handgun manufacturer before you spend your money to buy one.
#4. CPL Makes it Easier to Buy Firearms
If you ever tried to buy a gun in Michigan, then you would know that the process is time consuming. You must apply for a purchase permit from your police agency and wait about 10 days to weeks as some of my students told me in order to obtain that piece of paper for the purchase of a pistol.
Now with your CPL in hand basically serves as a permit to buy a pistol. You simply go to the gun shop and present your CPL and fill out some paperwork and you are done. No trips to the police station and no waiting periods, but you still have to follow the procedures on registration of the firearm.
#5. Get Paid More with Better Job Opportunities
Get more money for your certification. Security & Protection careers pay CPL holders more money for the simple fact that CPL holders had to go through extensive background & warrant checks before they got approved and also for carrying a firearm while on the job if required by the employer. Look into those careers such as Private Investigators, Armored vehicle Transporters, Bail Bondsman, and Executive Protection Agents.
#6. You got a Secondary State Issued ID
Your CPL is a state issued license with a picture to identify you. If you wish to use it for purposes of identification in addition to your Driver License or State ID, then be it. It is your choice.
THERE ARE MANY OTHER BENEFITS THAT YOU MIGHT EVEN THINK OF AS A CIVILIAN OR A LAW ENFORCEMENT SUPPORTER !!!
